Dwipe & Burp Cloths...

A couple of days ago I posted some photos of projects that I've been making the last couple of weeks for a couple of granddaughters that will arrive in February and March. Here are a few more of those projects...

A number of years ago I made this pattern for a Diaper/Wipe Tote. I named it the "Dwipe," and have been selling the pattern in my Etsy shop ever since. If you need a quick homemade gift for a mother-to-be, this should be your go-to gift. It's such an easy pattern to sew and it's something that will be used for years by the new momma (and daddy).  It's a small case where a parent can store essentials -- a travel case of wet wipes, a thin changing pad, and a few diapers. This tote can also come in handy for the parent who is training her child. One can put a change of clothing into the tote in case of emergency. This mini-tote can then be placed in a glove compartment, a purse, or a diaper bag. I made a bunch of these some months back and have been giving them away ever since.

I've saved the best for last. These are the easiest little gifts to make you will ever find, but mothers and fathers love these crazy burp cloths. Years ago one of my daughters-in-law asked me to make her some of these, and they've been a hit with the new mommas and daddies in our family ever since. They are basically a pre-folded purchased cloth diaper that has been fancied up a bit. Here's the simple tutorial I published years ago. It'll show you how to make these cute and practical gifts...'

{Once again, these fabrics are from of Hobby Lobby.}

Dwipes -- Diaper & Wet Wipe Tote

Last week I devoted a few hours to sewing. It felt heavenly. I've mentioned that we have a little granddaughter due in June, so I've been buying fabrics with her in mind. I wanted to make sure I made our little princess a "Dwipe."

I've been selling my Dwipe patterns {commercial pattern and personal pattern} in my Etsy store for years now. The Dwipe is a diaper and wet-wipe mini-tote. It's a small case where a parent can store diaper-changing essentials -- a travel case of wet wipes, a thin changing pad, and a couple of diapers.

This tote can also come in handy for the parents who are training their child. One can put a change of clothing into the tote in case of emergency. This mini-tote can then be placed in a glove compartment, a purse, or a diaper bag.

Carrying this type of tote to a restroom is more subtle than carrying a child, a package of wet-wipes, and a diaper and more manageable than a heavy diaper bag.

Fathers love the Dwipe because they don't have to carry a purse or diaper bag to take their child to the restroom for a quick change.

This -- along with some wet wipes and a small package of diapers -- makes the perfect gift for new parents. The dimensions of the Dwipe are 7"x10"x1".

Both these cute fabrics with a touch of metallic gold are found at Hobby Lobby.

...and a bib to boot!

I decided to put one more item in the package for my niece's little one she is expecting next month. This is a bib made from the "Ruffled Bib" pattern that I created and sell in my Etsy store. Go here if you're interested...

This bib goes well with the things that I already made from this fun fabric line called "Pinfeathers" by Carina Gardner.

Clockwise, starting top left:

Have a wonderful day!

Dwipe Pattern and Tutorial...

A while ago I promised to have my Dwipe Pattern and Tutorial available shortly. It's taken a couple of weeks to get it just right, but the pattern and instructions are finally here!

You'll note in the photo above that there are two Dwipe PDF Patterns available in my Etsy shop. A week ago I had an ah-haaa moment. I decided if I can't beat 'em -- I'll join 'em. I have chosen to make both "Personal Use" and "Commercial Use" patterns available in my Etsy shop.

The "Personal Use" patterns {$5} will be for those who intend to use the items made from a pattern for personal use or for gifts for others. The "Commercial Use" patterns {$25} will provide a license for those who would like to sell for profit items made from my patterns.

I've struggled over the last few years with people making profit from items made from the copyrighted patterns that I distributed freely. By having "Commercial Use" patterns in my shop, I will give people the opportunity to sell items made from my patterns in an honest manner.

I feel confident that, given the opportunity, those who would like sell products made from my patterns will voluntarily pay a little more for that option.

Within the next few weeks I will be converting all of the patterns in my Etsy to both "Commercial Use" and "Personal Use." If you've bought one of my patterns prior to that time and would like to use it commercially, I will make a "Commercial Use" license available to you at a lower cost. Just convo (Etsy) or email me when the commercial pattern becomes available in my Etsy. I will be happy to have your previously purchased "Personal Use" pattern go toward the purchase of the "Commercial Use" pattern!

Little Girl Dwipes...

I've been busy this week whipping up Dwipes (Diaper and Wet Wipe Mini-Totes) for my Etsy. This time I concentrated on Dwipes for the little girls in our lives! Lots of pink and damask and flowers! Here's a sampling...
Instead of adding a button to the outside of these Dwipes, I have opted to add a fabric flower to these feminine creations. I think the flowers add the perfect touch...
Here's one last creation. This Dwipe is going to be shipped very soon in anticipation of our 8th grandchild ... a little girl due in a month or so! Can't wait!!!
If you'd like to know more about how a Dwipe is used, go here!

The sweet hum-drum of a sewing machine...

I've been busy building up my Etsy shop the last couple of days. I've ignored my shop horribly these last few months. This week I'm working on building up the supply of Dwipes in my shop. Several of our friends and family members are expecting, and I not only want to whip up a few dwipes for those special people, but also for any little expected bundles that you might be looking forward to! I'll also be stocking the shelves with more wristlets and cupcake totes as well.

Here's a sampling of what I did the last couple of days...

I concentrated on little boy babies yesterday. Later this week or next I'll focus on little girl Dwipes. If you're unsure what a Dwipe is... go here and find out for yourself! These items are residing in my Etsy.

Have a nice night!

Dwipe...

Last week my daughter and I finished several projects. One of these projects was making several Dwipes for friends and family that have recently given birth to little girls. I also made one for my Etsy -- it'll be in there later today.
The Dwipe came to be when one of my daughter-in-laws wondered if I could create a pattern for a diaper and wet wipe case. Soon after the "Dwipe" was born. I've been selling them and giving them as gifts ever since.
It's a small tote where a parent can store essentials -- a travel case of wet wipes, a thin changing pad, and a few diapers. This tote can also come in handy for the parent who is training their child. One can put a change of clothing into the tote in case of emergency. This mini-tote can then be thrown in a glove compartment, purse, or diaper bag and you're ready to go! Carrying this type of tote to a restroom will be more subtle than carrying a child, package of wet-wipes, and a diaper and more convenient than a heavy diaper bag. Fathers love the Dwipe because it's more compact than carrying a diaper bag to the restroom when their child needs a quick change. This, along with some wet wipes and a package of diapers, makes the perfect gift for a new mother.

Been busy...

I've been busy lately trying to build up my Etsy shop a bit. Last week I finished off six dwipes (dwipes = a diaper and wet-wipe mini-tote) and included them in my shop. The little boy dwipes that I added are made from fabric from the Oh Boy! line by David Walker Studio for Free Spirits Fabrics. This line has a charming array of designs from dinosaurs to trains, lions to planes, and dots to robots! It's everything a little boy could ask for.

I buy a good deal of my fabric online. Even with the shipping costs, the cost is comparative to what I would spend in a quilting (fabric) store in town for the same fabric, and there is often much more of a selection online of the types of fabrics I prefer. I've had good and better experiences with online fabric stores. I'd like to highlight an Etsy fabric store that I particularly like -- Fresh Squeezed Fabrics!

Some say I'm particular. Some say I'm picky. Others might say I'm choosy, finicky, and persnickety. If I was to be honest, I would have to agree with them -- especially when it comes to fabric. I like my fabric to arrive in pristine condition. Nicely folded. Carefully packaged. On time arrival. It's wonderful when you find a store that meets all those qualifications. That's how my fabric arrives when it comes from Fresh Squeezed. Randi, owner of Fresh Squeezed Fabrics, is a fellow Coloradan and she has a delightful and inspirational blog as well. I just thought I'd pass on the information, as I know I appreciate getting other people's recommendations.

Anyway, here's a sampling of the dwipes I made with the Oh Boy! fabric I recently purchased from Fresh Squeezed Fabrics...

You can check out Just Another Hang Up's Etsy store, to see these and the new little girl dwipes I created!

Snips and snails and puppy dog tails...

Have you ever noticed that the genders of newborns have a tendency to run in cycles? It seems to me that often there is covey of little girl babies born followed by a string of baby boys. Well, we are smack dab in the middle of a train of little boys around here. Since the beginning of the year through the month of August, I've know at least 10 women that have given birth or are expecting to give birth, and every last one of them is expecting a little boy! The last mommy I know that delivered a baby boy was one of my adorable nieces. She gave birth about a week ago, so today I whipped up a Dwipe for her and a few extra to put in my Etsy. I also made some little girl Dwipes just in case someone, somewhere, is having a girl. :o) Love the sweet little boy and little girl fabrics for these...

"Hungry Caterpillar" Dwipe, $15

The cute green caterpillar link on this Dwipe definitely mimics the favorite children's book that it's named after! Love this fabric. Andover Fabrics has a whole line of fabrics in honor of Eric Carle's classic. This particular fabric is so bright and cheery.
