Potted Birds Nests

A week before Easter I found myself over at All Things Heart and Home admiring some beautiful little birds nests in flower pots. I loved her idea so a few days before Easter my daughter and I got to work. We collected the following materials...

  • 5" terra cotta pots
  • 4" bird nests
  • small wooden eggs
  • paint for eggs and pots
  • brown glaze for pots
  • a couple of varieties of moss
  • twigs
  •

I started by distressing the pot a bit with some off-white and moss-colored craft paint. I'd sponge a little on and wipe a little off. It's a very exact science. {Not.} I then added a little bit of smoke-colored glaze to outside of the pot to give it just a little more depth.

Then I began to attach (with hot glue) some moss to the side of the pot, bringing it up to the rim and over to the inside of the pot.  I used a couple of different kinds of moss for variety.

A nest was added to the top of each pot and some twigs from my apple tree gave it a little more believability!

My daughter mixed paints to come up with three different colors of turquoise to paint the wooden eggs. Then we speckled them by watering down some brown craft paint, dipping an old toothbrush in the paint, and flicking the paint onto the eggs. So cute...

I used these cute nests in between vases filled with white tulips on Easter. I plan on using them all summer long as decorations in our home.
