Bloomin' Tuesday

I'm running behind today. Almost missed Bloomin' Tuesday all together -- and I would have hated that. This morning I had every good intention, but my camera threw a hissy-fit, and I had to start my day without posting my usual Bloomin' pictures. This afternoon I was able to dust off my old camera, take some photos, and do a little posting. I'm not entirely sure it was worth all the effort, because I don't have too much to show for it! But here goes...

Off the patio in our back yard we have a tiered garden area. In the second tier, I have mostly perennials which give me my first hint of color every year. Up until mid June it is awash with springtime blossoms, but come the first part of July it becomes more subdued. By then most of the perennials have strutted their stuff for a couple of months and they begin to look a bit bedraggled and bloomless.

This is how the area looked this morning before my camera got testy. The tier I am referring to is the one with the birdbath and the tree...

Yesterday I decided to buy a few New Guinea impatiens to add a touch of color to the area. They have such a big, showy blossom and add a punch of bight, beautiful color to the area. We're having a wedding reception later this summer in our garden, so I'm trying to spice things up a bit...

Here's what it looks like after the plantings. Not a huge change, but a little more color -- especially in person.
