Bloomin' Tuesday . . .

One of my favorite places in and around our home is our backyard. It's a cool, shady and relaxing spot during the hot summer months. Several times this last week we've been found settling down with friends and family enjoying conversation in this secluded area. This week's Bloomin' Tuesday shows a variety of unrelated photos of what's happening in our garden at the moment. Honestly, these are the dog-days of summer in Colorado -- generally too hot for people and plants to thrive. Soon, the temps will dip down a bit and my garden will revive and become more lush again right before the onset of autumn. Till then, here are a few shots...

This first photo is of a favorite rose of mine that is blooming again. I must admit our relationship has not always been friendly. The year after I planted this rose it was more dead than alive, so {not having the gumption to dump it in the trash} I dug it up and replanted it in a corner of the yard thinking the installation in a new location would surely finish her off. The next year she began to thrive. Unfortunately, I didn't like where I planted her -- she looked out of place -- so I decided to remove her altogether. I hacked away at that plant and the roots and disposed of it in the trash. Apparently I didn't remove all the roots, because the next Spring she burst onto the scene with vigor. For several more years I tried to remove it -- each Spring she bounced back better than ever. I finally gave up and bent my measly will to her much stronger one and she's currently one of the best looking roses I have in my garden. Proof positive that adversity can make one stronger...

Two years ago I planted the hosta plants below next to our fence. This area had always been a trouble spot. It's a shaddy, soggy spot and in the past I hadn't been able to get anything to grow in that location. The hostas survived the heat of the first summer and did well last summer, but {as most perennials do the third year after planting} they are thriving this summer!

I plant some nastursium seeds every year at the base of a huge shade tree in our yard...

And, finally, here's a little blossom that we took a picture of earlier this week. He's the cutest little bud around...
